Is Wisdom Teeth Extraction Painful?
Before the extraction begins, Dr. Omid will discuss your preferred sedation method. Once you are relaxed or asleep, he
will numb the gums surrounding your wisdom teeth. We take care to use an appropriate level of
sedation to keep you comfortable, ensuring you experience minimal pain. You may feel some pressure,
but if you feel pain, please inform your dentist immediately so that we can address it promptly.
How Are Wisdom Teeth Removed?
The extraction process varies depending on how much of the tooth is visible:
Simple Extraction
If the wisdom teeth have fully erupted and are in good condition (not broken or severely decayed),
they can be relatively easily removed with forceps.
Surgical Extraction
For fully or partially impacted teeth or teeth with other issues like decay, infection, or bone
disease, surgical extraction may be necessary. In this case, your Montclair dentist will use a
scalpel to expose the tooth and roots, followed by the removal of the tissue connecting the wisdom
tooth to the bone, making the extraction easier. After the extraction, self-dissolving sutures will
be placed. If you were under complete sedation, you will rest until you regain full consciousness.
